Brown Medical Industries recently successfully launched its Surgical Instruments line of products, which now includes the Joint Distractor. This is a stainless steel instrument which distracts the small joints in the foot, offering the surgeon greater control with both distraction and retraction. The Joint Distractor provides 53% greater exposure and 25% more distance, resulting in a reduction in surgery time and a reduction in the rate of non-union during arthrodesis. Unlike competitors, Joint Distractor does not collapse the joint nor close unexpectedly. In fact, since it cranks the joint both open and closed, it can be used as a temporary fixation device.
